I just returned from a trip to Barcelona with my parents and boyfriend. I didn't have time to update the blog as I traveled, so over the next few days I'll be posting about Barca!
When we first arrived, everyone had been traveling close to 24 hours, so we were exhausted. We forced ourselves to stay awake at least until 8, so we killed hours by eating at a fabulous Italian restaurant and visiting a bull ring that had been turned into a shopping center.
Kiefer and I outside the bull ring. Kiefer can barely open his eyes.
My dad inside the bull ring. The place was decked out for Three Kings Day. They even had a guy dressed up as one of the kings, equivalent to America's Santa.
The bull ring during the day.
Views from the roof. I can't remember the name of this circle, but I believe that's the kid's science museum on the other side.
The building at the top of the hill is the Catalan Art Museum. We went there later in the trip so I'll post more pictures of it later on.The next day we headed out to Las Ramblas. It's the touristy district by the water. There's lots of shopping, churches, museums, and markets.
There was a walkway down the middle with one-way roads on both sides. It was extremely crowded. (You can see the back of Kiefer's head.)
Oh, hi!
All the buildings had decorations of some sort. This one had a dragon holding a lamp and an umbrella underneath. I noticed a lot of Asian influences wherever we went. I love how oriental designs can fit with almost anything...
There were a lot of street performers. Here's a picture of Kiefer standing with a man dressed as a statue of Galileo. Below, are just a few things we saw along the way.
This was the top portion of a drinking fountain...
I thought the palms looked great along the street by the water.
Barcelona's between two mountains, you can always see a hill somewhere.
Mom, lookin' like a babushka.
Kief really didn't want me to take this picture...
Between two statues by the water...
They wreaked of urine.
Loved this woman's hair
... and his.
This woman and her hubby were stylin'!
Random sculptures lined the walkway along the water. One of my favorite parts of Barcelona was seeing how they incorporate art into the city.
Once we walked the length of La Rambla (from Liceu to the water), we began our journey to the Barcelona Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia.
Kiefer and I standing outside a small chapel on our way to the cathedral.
Mom with her camera outside the same chapel (getting ideas for her garden, no doubt).
Cellist outside the church... how I miss playing.
Me outside the Cathedral.
The inside of the Gothic cathedral, seat of the Archbishop of Spain. There were many different alcoves dedicated to different saints within the cathedral.

Lovely photos Kiefer! Thank you!
There was a magnificent garden within the cathedral. This is one of the fountains inside. Swans were parading around the area and a grand nativity scene was set on the other side.
I believe this is a picture of Tibidabo Church taken from the roof of the cathedral (I believe it's part of the amusement park at the top of the hill).
When we left the cathedral, it was time for lunch. We stopped at a small restaurant in an alley then winded our way through the old section of Las Ramblas. There were lots of little shops and bakeries around. We ran into La Boqueria Market where piles of seafood, meats, candies, fruits, and vegetables are sold.

Here you can admire the Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stain Kiefer bought me for Christmas!
Eating dragon fruit with a spoon... yum! (And I bought a shirt from Zara, you can see the bag.)
After the market, we went to dinner then strolled around another part of Las Ramblas. New Years was that night and this square was ready for the celebration. There was an indoor ice skating rink and the fountain was lit up.

Kiefer and my energy was expended from walking all day (I tried to add up the mileage, it came out to about 17 miles) so we stayed in for New Years. My mom bought some champagne grapes and we drank fine Brandy in the flat.
Oh and I got an email saying my car was totaled by a drunk driver....
Happy New Years to me. :(
