The outside of the Guggenheim from a block away. The Guggenheim was designed/built by Frank Lloyd Wright, an influential American architect.
We ran into the Guggenheim Cupcake! Sadly, there were no cupcakes to buy, just a postcard showing where the cupcake bike had been (lots of national monuments!).
A picture taken from the inside of the museum shows the curving walkways of the Picasso exhibit. The central portion of the museum is open so that visitors can view the works from afar. It's really a brilliant design!
After a three-hour self-guided tour of the museum, we headed to central park. The view we were met with was stunning!
We were captivated by the view of the San Remo, a co-op apartment home to a series of celebrities.
Oh yeah, check out the Lookbook. My outfit was inspired by Woody Allen's ditzy and loveable character Annie Hall. I loved how Diane Keaton would layer skirts, boots, and blazers topped with large-brimmed hats. She was delicate while maintaining a strong and almost masculine stature. I tried to embody her spirit with my own medley of garments:
Large-brimmed wool hat: H&M
Wool sweater: Gap
Triangle-print blouse: Anthropologie
Skirt: secondhand
Belt: Madewell
Necklace: DIY
Watch: Diesel
Boots: Frye
(I couldn't maintain Hall's persona. My Hip-Hop/gangsta character seeped out.)
We exited the park around Cleopatra's Obelisk. My mother commented that she'd like one in our back yard... I think the neighbors would complain about such a large phallus dominating the hood.
My mom just had too...
On the roof of the Met!
The Cloud City exhibition was on the roof. We didn't get tickets to climb through it, though we could view this sculptural masterpiece from the outside. Cloud City is Tomas Saraceno's scientific fun house. It's a mixture of architecture and playful art. The structure is built of a series of pods or straight-edged bubbles. Some faces of the contraption have mirrors (the pictures below show Kief and I playing with the mirrored sides) while others are open. I believe Saraceno was playing with the idea of space and reality... but who can be sure?

And this concludes my family affair in NYC last weekend. Stay tuned for more next week... ;)
